The Minnesota Christmas Tree Growers Association is proud to showcase their MN Grown products each year at the MN State Fair. We have been competing in the Christmas Tree division in the Agriculture Horticulture (AGHORTBEE) Building since 1966!

Tree Contest

Currently, there are 11 categories of Christmas trees, 2 categories for decorated trees and 3 categories for wreaths and other decorations.

Christmas trees entered in the 11 undecorated tree categories of the MN State Fair contest are limited to professional Christmas tree growers within the state of Minnesota only.

From these trees, a Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion and Sweepstakes Champion trees are selected.

This contest is very important to our Christmas Tree Growers as this allows the Grand Champion to enter a tree into the National Christmas Tree Contest.

The National Christmas Tree Contest then determines which farm from across the United States is selected to provide the official Christmas Tree for the White House in Washington D.C. The runner up has the honor of providing a Christmas tree for the Vice President’s home.

Something for Everyone

You’ll find a quiet, quaint corner designed especially for children. Nestled in the back corner of our space, this cozy little area is the perfect place for kids to slow down and get creative.

Children can color and decorate ornaments to hang on our Christmas trees—or take their masterpiece home to save for their own tree at Christmas.

There’s plenty of room for little ones to color and create while parents sit back, relax, and enjoy a peaceful break from the crowds and excitement of the State Fair.

A little space to create, unwind, and make a special holiday memory together.

Other Contests

Eligibility of entering a decorated tree, decorated or undecorated wreath or an other decoration is open to the public.

Judging

Interested in judging at the Minnesota State Fair? Now’s your chance!

Judging our Christmas Trees is not taken lightly – we are looking for real Christmas tree consumers who have an eye for detail and have a true love for the holiday.

If you are interested , please read through the details and requirements before applying.

Requirements:

Judges must be real Christmas tree consumers.
Judges may not be an exhibitor, an immediate family member of an exhibitor or an affiliate of an exhibitor.
Judges must be available Monday, August 18, 2025, 9am-3pm.
Judges must fill out an application and receive an acceptance email.
